Knit Graffiti Project

ktog: knit together aims to bring the difficult issues of violence and abuse from the private sphere to the public discourse. The comforting nature of knitting and the contemplative time it takes to create a piece is combined with the uncomfortable topics of domestic, emotional and sexual abuse that men and women tackle in their daily life.

After a recent project of public knitting that included confessional text regarding domestic abuse, I decided to also spread positive messages through knitting. I traveled around Europe creating small pieces that serve as signs for the viewer to remember the importance of forgiveness. Over time these tags became a strategy to deal with my own struggles with forgiveness. The repeating of this word through knitting became a meditation on this possibility of forgiveness.

New tags dealing with issues of memory, acceptance and forgiveness are being planned.
